Vascular reactivity in diabetes mellitus.

چکیده
A patient with type 2 diabetes carries a cardiovascular risk similar to that of a non-diabetic with a prior history of myocardial infarction. Endothelial dysfunction, an early event in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis is present in diabetes mellitus in the absence of clinical cardiovascular disease. The assessment of the endothelium dependent vasodilatory effect in response to various stimuli known to increase NO (nitric oxide) production is termed vascular reactivity1,2. Vascular reactivity has been assessed in conduit arteries, forearm resistance vessels capillaries and vein in diabetes. The cerebral, myocardial, skeletal muscle, renal, skin and penile blood vessels in type 1 and type 2 diabetes have been shown to have abnormal vascular reactivity. It is possible that impaired vascular reactivity may contribute to the clinical manifestations of cardiovascular disease, the pathogenesis of nephropathy, diastolic dysfunction, foot ulcers and erectile dysfunction in subjects with diabetes mellitus2,3.

Soybean feeding improves vascular dysfunction and atte-nuates oxidative stress in streptozotocin-diabetic rats
Background and Objective: In this research, the effect of chronic dietary soybean aqueous extract on aortic reactivity of streptozotocin (STZ)-diabetic rats was investigated. Materials and Methods: STZ-diabetic rats were treated with soybean aqueous extract for two months after diabetes induction. Contractile reactivity to KCl and phenylephrine (PE) and relaxation response to acetylcholine (ACh...
متن کاملThe in vitro effect of Melissa officinalis aqueous extract on aortic reactivity in rats with subchronic diabetes
Abstract Background and Objective: Vascular abnormality and dysfunction plays an important role in the pathogenesis of vascular disease in diabetic state. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether an in vitro exposure of endothelium-intact aortic rings to Melissa officinalis (lemon balm, MO) aqueous extract could have a beneficial effect in rats with subchronic diabetes. Materials and Meth...
متن کاملNitric oxide and endothelium-dependent effect of Tribulus terrestris feeding on aortic reactivity of streptozotocin-diabetic rats
Background and Objective: Cardiovascular disorders continue to constitute major causes of morbidity and mortality in diabetic patients. In this study, the effect of chronic administration of Tribulus terrestris (TT) feeding was studied on aortic reactivity of streptozotocin (STZ)-diabetic rats and some underlying mechanisms were investigated. Materials and Methods: Male diabetic rats receive...
متن کاملThe Effect of Tribulus Terrestris on Thoracic Aorta Contractile Response in Diabetic Rats
Background & Aims: Considering the higher incidence of cardiovascular disorders in diabetes mellitus and some evidence on antioxidant and antidiabetic potential of Tribulus terrestris (TT), this study was conducted to evaluate the beneficial effect of 6-week oral administration of TT on contractile reactivity of isolated thoracic aorta in diabetic rats. Methods: Female Wistar rats were divided ...

Cardiovascular disorders continue to constitute major causes of morbidity and mortality in diabetic patients. In this study, the effect of chronic administration of sesame (Sesamum indicum L) seed feeding was studied on aortic reactivity of streptozotocin (STZ)-diabetic rats. Male diabetic rats received sesame seed-mixed food at weight ratios of 3% and 6% for 7 weeks, one week after diabetes in...
